Five Alive Focus: Our defib donation to Talbot Green Football Club

Mar 26, 2024

Earlier this year EPC-UK reported the news that, thanks to our 2023 fundraising success, we were able to secure the donation of five further sets of lifesaving defibrillation equipment within community sports facilities in January alone.

The first of those five donations was to Talbot Green Football Club, which in the words of club coach Laura Warren is “a wonderful space for children, parents and coaches to come together and share a common love of football, whilst building long lasting friendships.”

“A safe and happy place”

Laura describes her club as “a safe and happy place where we take care of each other,” making EPC-UK’s recent defibrillator donation feel even more rewarding for our team.

Coaching players from u6 to seniors, the club has approximately 160 child members. The portable defibrillator donated by EPC-UK will make Talbot Green a heart safe space for the hundreds of people who train there each week, as well as the 16 teams that play in the u9 mini league every Saturday in South Wales.

A heart safe space

“Like other parents associated to the club, I want to know our children are protected,” Laura continues. “When I was a child, I remember the tragic death of 15-year-old Daniel Yorath. Daniel collapsed and died in 1992 as a result of a heart condition, just before he was due to begin a football career with Leeds United. Passionate about the club, I have always worried that a similar tragedy could occur during play to one of our children. Then when a coach from local team Pontyclun successfully requested and received a defibrillator from the EPC-UK fund, he soon suggested I reach out to see if we could have the same. I’m delighted to say that Julie Wootton, who works to make the EPC-UK Defibrillator cause happen, was more than happy to oblige, and now all our parents and staff members feel so much safer knowing plans are in place should the worst happen. We’re incredibly grateful.”

Let’s top up the total

Marking the occasion, EPC-UK’s Area Operations Manager – West, John Morgan took great pride in presenting Laura and her team with the fundraised defibrillator equipment. We hope to make more money than ever before for our heartfelt cause at the EPC-UK 2024 Charity Golf Day on Thursday 5th September, places for which are now ready to reserve.

Please email: to sign up and play or to nominate your local school or sports facility to receive a defibrillator and training.
