To mark the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) has created a commemorative album entitled UN75: Sustainable Engineering In Action, and EPC-UK is proud to announce it is one of the editorial contributors.

This beautifully designed hardback book highlights the ICE and UN’s shared commitment to shaping a better future, and addresses the challenges that lie ahead, as informed by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As an industry leader in the creation of sustainable civil engineering processes, EPC-UK was well placed to contribute to this innovative book, providing a case study which focused on the ground-breaking work of its Civil Engineering department. This case study will feature alongside contributions from UN agencies such as UNOPS, UNICEF, UNESCO, the World Health Organization, UN Women and UN-Habitat, and a host of key partners.  The book explores engineering’s impact in such areas as health, human rights, climate, urban growth and economic development.

Ben Williams, Managing Director of EPC-UK, explains why being involved in this project was so important: “UN75: Sustainable Engineering In Action aims to raise awareness of the vital need for sustainable development and infrastructure, and highlight the role that engineering has to play in tackling the SDGs.

“Here at EPC-UK we understand the impact our business activities have on surrounding areas and communities and have worked hard to devise technologies and processes that enable us to carry out these activities in the most sustainable way possible.

“But we never rest on our laurels and our civil engineering team is constantly developing its knowledge of new sustainable ways of operating. We’re confident that through continual learning and working closely in partnership with our customers we can create a successful and – more importantly – maintainable sustainable future.”

Produced in partnership with publisher Artifice Press, UN75: Sustainable Engineering In Action will be launched on 16 November 2020 at a high profile international digital event. Delegates will include industry experts, UN representatives, senior ICE personnel, and ICE members from around

the world. In addition to the book’s launch, the event will feature addresses from prominent keynote speakers, panel discussions, Q&A sessions and the opportunity for attendees to interact and discuss the pressing issues of the day.

Ahead of the book’s launch, Anna Danby, Publishing Director at Artifice Press, said: “The Institution of Civil Engineers and the United Nations have a shared history over the past 75 years. This publication celebrates that shared history and will bring a heightened awareness of the massive

efforts that ICE and the UN are making to help the world reach targets for sustainable development. We are extremely proud of this book and honoured to be working alongside such exceptional organisations on this project.”
